E. JONES

2001 in the gritty streets of New Brunswick, New Jersey, you probably would have found E. Jones terrorizing the blacktops and preparing for his entrance into college to play basketball at North Carolina Central University. Headed south to school, E. Jones born Eric Jones, tossed his hoop dreams out of the window right in between the VA and NC state line.

His family started to worry because basketball was E. Jones’s life, but soon they would find themselves to be proven wrong. What they did not know is that basketball was the backup plan, and supplying the world with great music was his main objective. Like most kids E. Jones wanted to be a rapper or a singer. The thing was he wanted to make the music he rapped and sang over so he would put a spin on the song using a keyboard he had gotten one Christmas. He never took piano lessons. Jones spent most of his days sitting in his room listening to and creating music, playing the melodies by ear. Being a perfectionist, Jones would play as long as would take him to get the melodies right. In high school, Jones started to develop his emcee and writing skills by battling classmates and friends in the back of homeroom or in the cafeteria. In his freshman year of college, Jones hooked up with his brother Keith “Wayleft” Jones and good friend Derek “Drop” Braxton who gave him the inspiration to focus more on becoming a music producer than a rapper or singer. Once he got his hands on a MPC2000, he couldn’t walk away from it. E. started off a little shaky on his new machine, but after a few weeks of making beats nonstop everyone around him including his family all realized he may have stumbled upon a way greater dream and an even more important purpose.

After a short hiatus of having no equipment, his struggle with the college lifestyle and school itself, E. Jones is now back on track and focused on school and of course producing and writing. Inspired by artists and producers such as Outkast, Pete Rock, DJ Premier, The Neptunes, Swizz Beats, Kanye West, and Just Blaze, Jones’ has cultivated a style of production that has given him the opportunity to work with artist in various genres of music. Jones has produced for and worked with T.I., Ludacris, Small World (DTP), Ness (Bad Boy), Purple City (Dipset), Hall of Justus and Darien Brockington. E. Jones is also working closely with 9th Wonder co-producing tracks for many major and upcoming artists such as Chrisette Michele, Wale and many others. Jones’ most notable achievement to date was when he landed a placement on Talib Kwelis’ latest CD “Eardrum” and he also produced the theme music to the BET show “Iron Ring”.
